Obviously, the house and gardens are a must and for children the Farmyard is a great way to get them up and close to animals. You can also just bring a picnic and take a walk in the park or stroll along the river. (Check for exhibitions and events). Or walk up the footpath behind the house to the hunting lodge and along to the lakes that feed the famous fountain below. You’ll get spectacular views of the house and the surrounding parkland. TIP: When driving over you can avoid Bakewell (it can get very congested) by going via Monyash and Ashford in the Water, you’ll also get some stunning views of the Chatsworth estate. For dining options we love going to the Devonshire Arms at Beeley, try and get into the light and airy brasserie area. The Old Smithy Café is also a perfect place to meet friends or for a light bite or afternoon tea. The Edensor Tea Cottage & Horse Box is also another great alternative just beside the park.
